First Race of 2021

On Sunday was the first race of 2021 since coming out of lockdown 3.0.It was a local 25 mile or 40KM Time Trial head on the standard 25 course which everyone uses on the Isle of Man, although there was still a star studded startlist with max walker of trinity racing and pete kennaugh olympic champion and former team sky pro, just to name a few .This meant it was a 6:15 wake up as I was off last at 9:35 which gaveme a little bit extra motivation being off last as I had never set off last in a time trial before. The good thing about it being local isthat Ican ride out to the HQ which is around 20 minutes ride as part of my warm up.

I like to listen to music while I spin on the rollers for around 10 minutes before I head to the start which is a couple of minutes away.Once I am at the start, I like to just think positive thoughts as I know I have put in the hard work to be ready but it is too late to change anything now.Once I set off I tried to focus on position as this is the moment where you feel amazing but tried to keep the speed high as it went on I could feel it starting to bite but as I caught people infront of me thatgave me that extra motivation.Luckily last 5 miles were tailwind so I could just hang on and just try stay as aero as possible and empty the tank,I thought the line was never going to come but I ended up with a time of 50:40 which is 47.5KMH and a new senior course record for the Isle of Man.I was extatic to win and to get that time in such tough conditions with the win made me happy.
